If you’ve ever wondered how our handmade wooden gifts and laser-cut craft blanks come to life, this post takes you behind the scenes of our little workshop in Vernon, British Columbia. Every piece — from a simple snowflake charm to a detailed wooden ornament — begins as an idea, shaped by imagination and brought to life through careful craftsmanship.

✏️ Step 1: The Design Stage

Every creation starts with inspiration — sometimes from nature, sometimes from a customer request, and sometimes from a happy accident at the workbench!

I design each piece using Inkscape and Adobe Illustrator, planning every curve and line for perfect laser precision. The design files are tested on scrap wood first to make sure cuts are smooth and edges stay clean. This is where ideas start to transform into something tangible.

🔥 Step 2: Laser Cutting & Engraving

Once the design is finalized, it moves to the laser cutter or CNC machine — depending on the project. The smell of freshly cut maple or birch fills the workshop as the design takes shape. Watching the Glowforge laser glide across the wood, engraving each detail, never gets old.

This process allows for incredible precision — perfect for ornaments, charms, and personalized gifts that need crisp, clean lines.

🎨 Step 3: Finishing Touches

After cutting, each piece is carefully cleaned, sanded if needed, and sealed with a clear protective coat. Some designs stay unfinished so crafters can paint and personalize them — others are fully finished and ready for gift giving.

Packaging is just as important as production. Every order is hand-packed in Vernon, BC, with attention to detail that reflects the same care as the product inside.

I’m proud that all Wooden Wonder Gifts products are Made in Canada and crafted using locally sourced wood whenever possible. The workshop runs on efficient, low-waste practices — offcuts are reused for smaller items, and packaging materials are recyclable or compostable.
